Interview avec Gloria González
Which musician has influenced you the most?
My greatest influence is Shostakovich, as my preferred musical style is orchestral music, and he uses the double bass with great strength and prominence, clearly expressing the musical message through orchestration and sound.
What can you teach me about your instruments different than any other teacher?
I demonstrate the versatility of the double bass and the importance of understanding its role both as a solo instrument and within ensembles.
How did you learn to play your instrument?
I started music school at the age of 4. At 8, I had to choose between viola and double bass for conservatory entrance, and I chose the double bass without knowing it would become my future.
How do you go about writing a song or composing a piece yourself?
I do not compose music.
On what equipment do you play today?
I use my own double bass: SCB Maestro, Corsini model.
What personal trait has helped you when you practice the most?
I am demanding within reasonable limits and very versatile, which has helped me adapt to different situations and always give my best.
What does your instrument have that others don't?
All instruments are unique, but I consider the double bass an instrument of strength and resonance.
What aspects do you pay special attention to when teaching?
I identify the student’s goal from the beginning, whether professional or purely for enjoyment, and adapt the lessons accordingly so everyone can enjoy the learning process.
How do you structure your music lessons?
Each lesson begins with technical work appropriate to the student’s level, providing a solid foundation for the music to be studied.
What is your approach when teaching children?
I have always been surrounded by children in both family and academic environments, and I am able to capture their attention and understand their individual needs.
What was until now your greatest experience as a musician?
My best experiences have been orchestra projects, both youth and professional, as orchestral work is what I enjoy most alongside teaching.
What was the largest stage that you've performed on?
Miguel Delibes Auditory, in my city Valladolid, Spain.
Which musician would you like to play with?
I do not have preferred musicians to play with. If they are important figures, it is always gratifying to play with them, whoever they are. And if they are not professionals, you can always learn from any situation.
Which record would you bring to a desert island?
Shostakovich 7th or 11th symphony.
On which stage do you like to perform?
ElbPhilarmonie, in Hamburg.
After music, what is important in your life?
Family, friends, and traveling are essential parts of my life.
