Interview with Simona Rusu

Which musician has influenced you the most?
Lizzy  Hale from Halestorm because of the voice and personality she exhibits when singing and playing..and many more. Tatiana from Jinjer, Demi Lovato, for reasons like, attitude and loud singing even if not everyone loves it.

What can you teach me about your instruments different than any other teacher?
With education rooted in the latest scientific and anatomical findings for the voice function I can provide healthy guidance and concrete tools for achieving the desired goal. No tabus so to say and I can provide solutions for voiding, or eliminating vocal fatigue or tension that can occur during misuse of the voice. I can teach extreme vocal effects and noises for metalcore, or death metal music in a healthy and safe manner.

How did you learn to sing?
In Church, as a teenager I formed a band even though I was just a silent vocalist so to say... once when me and the rock band rehearsed, everyone was loud of course, like in rock music, only I was super soft singing and since our rehearsal was in an basement, the guitarist said, hey, someone show Simona a rat so she can start screaming, so we can hear her.

How do you go about writing a song or composing a piece yourself?
-

On what equipment do you play today?
I use the equipment available in the studio room.

What personal trait has helped you when you practice the most?
Getting over myself, consciousness and sticking to the practice daily, to the technique and not limit myself in any way, having an open mind.

Was hat dein Instrument, was andere nicht haben?
Voice is the most personal and intimate instrument one can use, it has the uniqueness of being part of the body not outside but inside so it can vibrate, express and communicate like no other instrument.

What you pay special attention to when you teach?
First to vocal healthiness, because with a healthy voice you can do everything you desire

How do you build up your music lessons?
Welcome and establishing a trustful atmosphere, observing how the student feels and adjusting my energy to his/hers
Checking vocal health
Ask the desire they have for the lesson, the goal if they have one
Starting to sing and exercise around the vocal goal they have for the day or if they don't have one we establish one together
Build confidence and keep it throughout
Build the path to reach the goal for the lesson
Sing as much as possible building the muscle memory needed for the desired skill
Concluding with what worked, focused on the process and accomplishment not on what did not work perfect

Wie gehst du bei Kindern vor?
I teach 14 years old the youngest because vocal tract needs to be as much as possible developed to approach technique more efficiently.

What was until now your greatest experience as a musician?
Playing at Symphonic Metal Echoes, an International metal festival, because meeting bands from all over Europe, sharing the same love for music gives purpose and makes you realize more and more what you are part of.

What was the largest stage that you've performed on?
Brasov Romania, Jazz and Blues Festival stage

Which musician would you like to play with?
Spiritbox, same genre and vocal style I do and I was inspired so much by them.

Which record would you bring to a desert island?
Spiritbox Fata Morgana, because of the phenomenon it represents and that can occur and the wonderful music and lyrics presented in the song

On which stage do you prefer to perform?
I would love to sing at Wacken Open Air Stage

After music, what is important in your life?
Family and friends
